Hancock-Wood Electric’s Operation Round Up Awards more than $10,000 to local organizations

 

NORTH BALTIMORE, OHIO – March 10, 2017 - The Hancock-Wood Electric Community Trust Fund (CTF) Board of Trustees announces it recently awarded more than $10,000 in first-quarter grants to local organizations through its Operation Round Up (ORU) program.

The CTF Board, distinct from the Hancock-Wood Electric Cooperative Board, distributed funds to five local organizations. Habitat for Humanity of Wood County received $1,000 for their North Baltimore rehab project; Muscular Dystrophy Association received $2,500 for their summer camp program; Findlay Enrichment Programs received $990 for their COSI on Wheels program; Arlington Local Schools received $2,500 for the Front of the Room Technology program; Halt Hunger Initiative received $4,000 for their Feed-A-Child program. Operation Round Up was established by Hancock-Wood as a way to fulfill one of the cooperative’s core principles - Concern for Community. The funding is garnered through Hancock-Wood Electric Cooperative’s member efforts to round up their monthly electric bills to the nearest dollar.  

According to George Walton, Hancock-Wood CEO and president, “Since its inception in 2008, ORU has awarded $497,848.28 in grants to help fund worthy projects requested by schools, volunteer fire departments, libraries and other nonprofit organizations throughout the communities in the Hancock-Wood Electric Cooperative service area.” 

The CTF Board is comprised of Hancock-Wood Electric Member volunteers, who meet quarterly to evaluate grant requests to fund a variety of needed projects in local communities. The CTF board includes – Chair Dan Branson, Vice Chair Ellen McKee, Treasurer Darlene Petkwitz, Secretary Karen Schuh and Member Denise Foos.

Hancock-Wood Electric Cooperative, established April 20, 1938, serves more than 11,000 members in Hancock, Wood, Allen, Erie, Hardin, Henry, Putnam, Sandusky, Seneca and Wyandot counties. Throughout the cooperative’s history, HWE has delivered reliable, affordable services and supported energy efficiency along with educational and charitable causes to make a positive impact within the communities it serves.
