HANCOCK-WOOD RAISES ‘CHAMPIONSHIP’ BANNERS

Wednesday, August 6, 2008

NORTH BALTIMORE, Ohio – Every great sports team raises a bannercelebrating a championship. In the corporate world, businesses have similar triumphs, but rarely do they go recognized and celebrated quite like this.

A northwest Ohio electric cooperative is looking like the Boston Garden after raising banners to the rafters.

The idea was conceived to raise numerous “championship” banners highlighting great company moments, or championships. Combined with Hancock-Wood Electric Cooperative’s move into a new building and celebration of its 70-year history – as well as seeking a way to chronicle its proud past – the banner idea was born.

“We have a long and unique history, one that needs to be shared,” said Terri Winkeljohn, manager of human resources & administrative supervisor. “These banners will help us honor our great moments, and communicate our history at the same time. We also hope, like any employee or public recognition, that they’ll serve as fantastic motivational tools to help us maintain our tradition of success.”

The goal is to raise a banner in the warehouse every time a new momentous company achievement is reached. For example, this past April, Hancock-Wood celebrated seven straight years of safety with no lost time, and also moved into its new facility in April. Banners reflecting these important occasions have been raised to the rafters.

Public is invited to view them on Friday, 8-8-08, at The Big Switch: New Office Grand Opening Party.
